Timeline of Important Events in Canon History:
  • In an alternate Earth where magical beings exist, a girl named Mykelle Santos grew up in a small mountain town. Her lifelong ambition to help people made her want to choose either a life in medicine or a life in the military. Mykelle chose to do both: she became a medic in the U.S. Air Force.
  • Mykelle moved to the city by herself and joined the Air Force ROTC to pay for school. She may not have been quite as fast as some of her classmates, but she worked hard, studied hard, and took summer classes.
  • After completing her first year of medical school, she shipped out to Pakistan. Her unit was "mortal"-only, with no supernatural beings. They were sent to establish peace and to monitor the area but stay out of magical conflict.
  • Upon landing in Pakistan, Mykelle's unit was attacked by a pack of mythical direwolves that had accidentally been herded there by a valkyrie named Beinn. The valkyrie was supposed to be hunting them but had been injured; the Air Force landed while she was stalking them, biding their time. Mykelle slew the leader of the direwolf pack and helped nurse Beinn back to health.
  • As thanks for Mykelle's intervention, Beinn appointed her as a valkyrie and asked to join a valkyrie combat contingent. Mykelle refused, as her place was with her unit.
  • Although Mykelle turned down the offer, Beinn granted her magic anyway. Mykelle kicked her out of the base and refused to leave her unit. She continued as if nothing was different. Though her body began to be magically augmented, she hid this from her peers.
  • One month before the end of her deployment, the Air Force convoy was attacked. Mykelle's jeep drove over an IED and shrapnel pierced her lung.
  • A reaper named James came to retrieve the souls of the dead after the attack and was surprised to find Mykelle still alive. The Air Force had declared her dead but her magic saved her. She confessed to being a rogue mythological agent.
  • James took Mykelle back to Chicago with him to meet and train with other mythological figures. While there, she was able to get in contact with Beinn and master her newfound powers.
  • While waiting for her lung to heal and the valkyries to reassign her, Mykelle worked as a bouncer at a Seelie club and bar until the valkyries approved her for reassignment. James had told the barkeep that she could be plenty surly when needed, and despite her severe chest trauma, Mykelle scared away plenty of unhallowed patrons without having to fight. Inside the bar, though, she was always nice to the barkeep and extra sweet to the shapeshifter who made drinks for her.
  • Mykelle was ultimately assigned to work as a paramedic, a cover for redeeming the souls of worthy dead. She sometimes works with James and his fellow reapers.
Personality:
    Mykelle is strongly committed to helping people. As a child, she stood up to bullies on the playground at school and was suspended several times for fighting. Surprisingly, medical school mellowed her out a bit (as her energy was more focused on studying than on fighting), as did training in the Air Force. Still, the impulse to help someone in need is a powerful motivating force for her.
    However, this commitment doesn't mean she's selfless.

    Mykelle can be quick to judge.
    Among strangers, Mykelle is quiet.

Abilities, Magic and Supernatural Skills/Afflictions:
  • Armor and weapon summoning: Because Mykelle works with mortals the majority of the time, she cannot openly carry her spear or wear her armor (white enameled with rune motifs). Most of the time, it is stored in an interdimensional space that is attuned to fit her spear and armor; this summoning and storing happens instantaneously. She can also summon her armor and spear from anywhere, though this will take more time.
  • Pseudo-immortality: Mykelle does not age and isn't effected by most illnesses and diseases. She can be hurt by conventional means but heals rapidly.
  • She also has above-human strength, endurance, and pain resistance.

Dragon & Magical Element
Elemental Alignment:
    Ice - Mykelle is not a cold person once you get to know her. However, to strangers, she can seem like a glacier: set in her ways and crushing anyone who interferes. (She also grew up in the mountains and likes to dress in blues, whites, and silvers.)
    Earth - Despite her stubborn nature, Mykelle can be rather nurturing. She looks out for those to whom she is most loyal (even if she tends to act in a way that she thinks is best rather than what they may actually want her to do). She respects all life unless it disrespects her first.
    Light - Valkyries are being of light and power, and Mykelle is no exception. She was given her magic due to her ability to fight evil creatures and her determination to help others. This conflicts with her primarily Ice-oriented nature, similar to Mykelle's inner turmoil over being made a valkyrie in the first place.
Dragon:
    Mykelle's dragon, Wren, hatches from an egg the size of a basketball. At first, the egg appears to have been hewn from obsidian, but a closer look shows that it's literal black ice. The rounded edges are somewhat translucent but show nothing of the infant dragon inside.

    Fully-grown, Wren will be a large dragon, and Mykelle intends to ride her into combat. Like most traditional dragons, Wren will have two large wings (with which she is capable of flight), four legs, and a long neck and tail. Unlike most traditional dragons, she will be almost entirely covered in black feathers and has a sharp beak instead of teeth. A crest of horns and feathers will cover the back of her head, and her long tail will end in similar spikes.

    Wren will primarily consume seafood, though if she's desperate, she will eat other kinds of meat.
